Echoes of War
Abstract
“Echoes of War” is a creative nonfiction work that chronicles the experiences of three generations of women from a family living through war in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. The piece provides a personal and nuanced perspective on the impact of armed conflict on civilian populations. The essay explores the complexities of identity, particularly the tensions between the Christian settler narrative and the ongoing struggle of the Muslim community in the region. By sharing the family’s history, the essay paints a vivid picture of the realities of war and offers insights into the historical context of the armed conflict. Initially conceived to document the narratives of war in Kauswagan and Lanao del Norte as a whole, “Echoes of War,” in its little power, aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of Mindanao literature and the human experience of conflict.
