Challenges for Spectrum Management Policy and Regulation: Learnings in an Asian Context
Abstract
One of the latest technologies that have been quickly popularized in the new millennium is wireless connectivity. Cellular phones and other modes and forms of mobile communication have seen consistent growth throughout the world and this has made the lives of the people easier. However, as with other technologies, greater access to wireless access is sometimes hindered by choke points is the area of policymaking. Case analyses of the enabling environment of wireless technologies in Asian countries like India, Philippines and Sri Lanka suggest the adoption of policies that will lessen if not totally remove restrictions related to import of hardware, among others, that make the technology still inaccessible to many.
