We Are Just Like This: Stories and Experiences of Trans Pinays in Davao City

Abstract

This article aims to unfold the stories and experiences of the trans pinays in Davao City. Using the familiarity of the author as the source of data, it will try to give an image to the individual yet connected experiences of the trans pinays on how their community, school, work, and government make sense of their gender and sexuality. This paper puts importance to the stories on how the trans pinays in Davao City imagine themselves especially when facing the challenges brought by transitioning and being trans in general. Finally, this article intends to convey the image of the trans pinays away from the Western perspective of transness, by highlighting their personal and collective struggles.
