Pagsiyasat sa Naging Gampanin ng NACOCO, PHILCOA, PHILCORIN at CCC sa Industriya ng Niyog sa Pilipinas, 1940-1972
Investigation on the Roles of NACOCO, PHILCOA, PHILCORIN, and CCC in the Coconut Industry in the Philippines, 1940-1972
Abstract
In this research, as a method of writing history—historiography, the data, records, reports, research, and personal communication with coconut farmers will be examined regarding the government agencies established to focus on the coconut industry in the Philippines. Firstly, the study will discuss the role of the National Coconut Corporation (NACOCO) in 1940 to address the objectives of the independent coconut industry in the Philippines. After NACOCO, the Philippine Coconut Administration (PHILCOA) was established in 1954. With the establishment of PHILCOA, coconut farmers faced a significant blow as the provision that became the legal basis for imposing the coconut levy on the coconut industry in the Philippines was included in the law that created PHILCOA. Despite this, the Philippines remained in the top in exporting coconut products until the establishment of the Philippine Coconut Research Institute (PHILCORIN), which focused on research programs to address the needs and challenges of the coconut industry and coconut farmers. The last agency to be established was the Coconut Coordinating Council (CCC) in 1971, which was a partner in implementing programs aimed at improving the production, processing, and sale of coconuts. Based
on these, the general objective of this study is to analyze the situation of the coconut industry during the period of NACOCO, PHILCOA, PHILCORIN, and CCC and to provide ideas and suggestions to further strengthen and develop the coconut industry in the Philippines.
