Author Guidelines
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS Pre-publication Status Articles must be original and unpublished works by the author/s. Works to be submitted should have been written not more than 5 years prior to the date of submission to the JURP. In case an article was previously published in another journal, appropriate document/s indicating that the requisite permission for the republication of the article, and any conditions for said permission, have been complied with shall be submitted upon acceptance of the article for publication. Journal Subject/Content All articles to be published in the journal shall be studies covering topics of immediate and long-term concern for the urban and regional planning practice, are grounded in sound theoretical and practical analytical frameworks; and of good quality that will stand up to the scrutiny of a peer-review process. Language The articles to be submitted shall be in English. Manuscript Preparations General Articles to be submitted for publication in the JURP should be typed single-spaced on one side of a letter size (8 ½” x 11”) bond paper, between 10 to 15 pages in length including tables, figures and other annexes in Microsoft Word format. Article should be accompanied by a Cover Page along with a Manuscript Submission Form (downloadable at SURP Website) bearing the following: • Title of the Article • Date of Submission • Author’s full name, current position, institutional affiliation with full address contact numbers and e-mail address Articles should be laid out using the template provided by the Research and Publications Office which bear the official journal identifier and format for the publication (downloadable at SURP Website); Abstracts A 150-200 word paragraph that outline the objectives of the research, as well as its scope and conclusions should be submitted along with the article. Keywords 3-10 keywords should also be submitted for indexing and access purposes. Texts The paper will be organized as follows: 1. Title, authors’ information, abstract and keywords 2. The chapters of the main text 3. Endnotes 4. List of References 5. List of Figures with captions and sources, 6. List of Tables with sources Sections The body will be divided in chapters. Adding sections and subsections under each chapter to organize the flow of the discussion will be left at the discretion of the Author/s. Chapter titles are typed in bold capitals and aligned left (for example, INTRODUCTION). In case the author will make use of sections, these must be typed in bold typeface (for example, Background of the Study). Subsections must be underlined (for example, Sample Size). Citations and References All texts lifted or directly quoted from references are to be indented and italicized. Use endnotes, numbered consecutively using superscript Arabic numerals. References should be cited using the author and year format, i.e. Cruz (1986), while the complete list of references cited should be at the end of the manuscript, following the standard APA bibliographic format: Sample APA Bibliographic Entries: Book: Serote, E.M. All figures should be numbered in Arabic numerals (1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc). For figures, place figure numbers and headings below the table/figure and position source information and notes below. For tables, the table numbers and headings are placed on top while the source information and notes are provided below. Illustrations Authors should include camera-ready, high-resolution images (preferably 300 dpi) separately from the document. Pictures should be in JPEG, TIF, or PNG format. Line drawings must be of good quality, with all letterings, graph lines and point on graphs sufficiently large and clear to allow for reproduction and scaling without loss of detail when reduced to or enlarged to the size suitable for publication. Equations Equations should be written with the same word processor that was used for the rest of the text for it to be legible.

As a publication of the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning, The Journal in Urban and Regional Planning (JURP)subscribes to the Publication Agreement endorsed by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research Development (OVCRD). Specifically, the copy right provides for: AUTHOR’S/(S’) RETAINED RIGHTS – The UNIVERSITY confirms that nothing in this Agreement shall be interpreted as a transfer of copyright or of any other intellectual property rights. Further, without suggesting any limit on other rights that the AUTHOR(S) may have with respect to the ARTICLE, the AUTHOR(S) retains/retain the following rights: a. To the extent that the UNIVERSITY holds similar rights with respect to the ARTICLE consistent with this Agreement, the AUTHOR(S) shall hold these rights on a nonexclusive basis. b. To the extent that the ARTICLE includes edits and other contributions by the staff of the Journal, the rights of the AUTHOR(S) in this Paragraph include the right to use such edits and contributions. c. The AUTHOR(S) may publish the ARTICLE in another scholarly journal, in a book, or by other means. The AUTHOR(S) may exercise this right of publication only after the date of first publication of the ARTICLE in the Journal in any format. d. The AUTHOR(S) shall, without limitation, have the right to use the ARTICLE in any form or format in connection with the AUTHOR’S/(S’) teaching, conference presentations, lectures, other scholarly works, and for all of AUTHOR’S/(S’) academic and professional activities and other similar non-commercial purposes. e. The AUTHOR(S) shall at any time have the right to make, or to authorize others to make, preprint or a final published version of the ARTICLE available in digital form over the Internet, including, but not limited to, a website under the control of the AUTHOR(S) (or the AUTHOR’S/(S’) employer) or through digital repositories including, but not limited to, those maintained by scholarly societies, funding agencies, or the AUTHOR’S/(S’) employer. This right shall include, without limitation, the right of the AUTHOR(S) to permit public access to the ARTICLE as part of a repository or through a service or domain maintained by the AUTHOR’S/(S’) employing institution or a service as required by law or by agreement with a funding agency. The UNIVERSITY may in its discretion deposit the ARTICLE with any digital repository consistent with deposits permitted by the AUTHOR(S) under this paragraph. f. Any of the foregoing permitted uses of the ARTICLE, or of a work based substantially on the ARTICLE, shall include an appropriate citation to the ARTICLE, stating that it has been or is to be published in the Journal, with name and date of the Journal publication and the Internet address for the website of the Journal. EDITORIAL PROCESSES AND THE AUTHOR’S/(S’) RIGHTS – While the AUTHOR(S) has/have the right to make changes on his/her/their work prior to or to hold it back from publication or to object to modification of said work it is understood that the ordinary editing processes of the Journal will be done in a diligent manner and that the AUTHOR(S) must return the manuscript with corrections within the period of time indicated by the UNIVERSITY or the Journal otherwise the ARTICLE will be published without the AUTHOR’S/(S’) corrections without any liability on the part of UNIVERSITY or others exercising rights granted the UNIVERSITY under this Agreement. GRANT OF LICENSE TO THE UNIVERSITY IN CONSIDERATION FOR THE PUBLICATION – AUTHOR/(S), in consideration for the UNIVERSITY’s undertaking to publish the ARTICLE, hereby grants a permanent, non-exclusive, world- wide , royalty-free license over the copyright over the ARTICLE for the period during which such copyright subsists in order to enable the UNIVERSITY to perform its mission of making knowledge reasonably accessible to the public as follows: a. The UNIVERSITY may publish the ARTICLE in any format, including electronic and print media. Specifically, this license includes the right to reproduce, publicly distribute and display, and transmit the ARTICLE or portions thereof in any manner, through any medium now in existence or developed in the future, including but not limited to print, electronic, and digital media, computerized retrieval systems, and other formats. b. The UNIVERSITY may prepare translations and abstracts and other similar adaptations of the ARTICLE in furtherance of its publication of the ARTICLE. c. The UNIVERSITY may use the AUTHOR’S/(S’) name, likeness, and institutional affiliation in connection with any use of the ARTICLE and in promoting the ARTICLE or the Journal. d. The UNIVERSITY may exercise these rights directly or by means of third parties. The Journal may authorize third-party publishers, aggregators, and printers to publish the ARTICLE or to include the ARTICLE in databases or other services. Examples of such third parties include Westlaw, LexisNexis, and EBSCO. e. The UNIVERSITY shall have the right, without requesting further permission from the AUTHOR(S) to transfer, assign, or sublicense the rights that the UNIVERSITY has pursuant to this Agreement. f. While it is understood that no monetary compensation will be provided by the UNIVERSITY for said license, the AUTHOR(S) will be provided an electronic copy or link of the journal for their reference.
