Classifiers in Philippine Languages

Abstract

In the Philippine languages, to be sure, there are words which indicate measured units of nondiscrete entities. There are, like-wise, a small number of words which indicate that in the enumeration of certain nouns there is specification of the type of units by which the species indicated by the noun is counted. In this paper I label these words ‘classifiers’, a subject which, as far as I know, has never been studied before.
