Notes on the History of the Italian Section of the Department of European Languages

Abstract

The Department of European Languages (DEL) of the University of the Philippines Diliman has the distinction of being the country’s Center of Excellence in Foreign Languages, conferred by the Commission on Higher Education in 1999. One of the factors that led to making the Department a Center of Excellence is its contributionto the development of foreign language education in the Philippines. It is the only institution that offers a four-year academic program leading to the degree of Bachelorof Arts in European Languages (BAEL).
The BAEL program allows a student to study one European language as major specialization (French, German, Spanish and Italian). These languages can also be taken as a minor; or the student may opt to take another field.
