Humanities Diliman Vol. 19 No. 1 (January-June 2022)


We are pleased to announce the publication of Humanities Diliman Vol. 19 No. 1 (Jan-June 2022). This issue features the following articles: "Locating the Asog: A Historical Account of Philippine Gay Identity in the Spanish Colonial Period" by Francis Luis M. Torres; "Contextualizing Duterte’s Rhetoric: The Rhetorical Situation of President Rodrigo Duterte’s Public Addresses on the Philippine’s Federal Shift" by Charles Erize P. Ladia; "The 1943 Bengal Famine and the Re-Enactment of Memory: A Study of Ashani Sanket (Distant Thunder, 1973) and Akaler Sandhane (In Search of a Famine, 1980)" by Jigisha Bhattacharya; and "A Critique of the Theme Park Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar Based on Some Principles of Heritage Conservation and Contending Perspectives" by Hannah Grace R. Lopez, Generoso B. Pamittan, Jr., and Feorillo A. Demeterio III.

It includes a monograph by Leslie Anne L. Liwanag and Michael Charleston “Xiao” B. Chua titled "Ang Paghiraya sa Bansa ni Don Belong: Pagsusuri ng mga Akda ni Isabelo de los Reyes sa Kanyang Yugto ng Transisyon (1897–1912)." Reviews by Arwin Q. Tan (on Mary Talusan’s Instruments of Empire) Ramon Guillermo (on Rommel Curaming’s Power and Knowledge in Southeast Asia) complete the issue.

Call for Papers


The Research Dissemination Office of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, University of the Philippines Diliman is accepting papers for publication in Humanities Diliman: A Philippine Journal of Humanities. Papers are accepted year-round. Manuscripts must use the MLA (8th edition, 2016) style sheet.

You may submit manuscripts relevant to the humanities of the Philippines, or humanities of other national cultures and context. Reviews of current scholarships, art exhibits, literary and theatrical works, architectural and clothing designs are also welcome.
