Sa Isang banda: Isang Pagninilay sa Konsepto ng Site-specificity (Kamâ-sa-lugar) para sa Kontemporaryong Sining

Abstract

Ang sanaysay na ito ay isang pagninilay sa pagitan ng ilang malikhaing manggagawa (creative workers) – mga artista at curator tungkol sa konsepto ng paggamit ng lugar bilang sentral na elemento ng paglikha.  Ang paggawa ng likhang nakakamâ sa lugar (site specific work) ay isang popular na estilo/metodo sa paglikha sa kontemporaryong sining. Bagamat hindi parati, madalas ang paglikha at pagtatanghal ay nagaganap sa mga lugar na sadyang hindi ginawa para sa sining biswal, katulad ng galeri. Bagamat animo’y may pagkakaunawaan na sa pagitan ng mga malikhaing manggagawa at kanilang manonood kung ano ang kahulugan at kabuluhan nito, layunin ng pagninilay na ito na itala sa ganang mas malawak na pagsusuri sa hinaharap kung ano nga ba ang pakahulugan natin ng likhang nakakamâ sa lugar batay sa praksis ng mga kontemporaryong artistang Pilipino?

This essay is a collection of reflections of creative workers—artists and curators, on how the concept of space or site is being used as a central element in art production. Creating site-specific works is a popular style or method in contemporary art. It is often that this type of work is produced (exhibited or performed) in spaces/ sites that are not actually intended for art, like galleries.  Although there seems to be an understanding among practitioners, and to some extent their audience, when the work is considered as site specific and when it is not, the aim of this reflection now is to survey these thoughts, to take note of them for the purpose of further analysis; to find out what meaning(s) site specific art work pertains to, coming from practice of contemporary art by Filipinos.
